RULES and REGULATIONS

Attendance

Attendance Policy

It is a privilege to be a participant in the MAYO program. Members of the MAYO orchestra are expected to be responsible to their colleagues, to themselves, and to the music itself. In any orchestra, every member’s presence at all rehearsals is crucial, therefore it is important that you try to arrive at all rehearsals on time, come prepared, and have a good attitude toward your colleagues in the orchestra. Missing a rehearsal or arriving late affects your friends in the orchestra and disrupts the work process.

Each student is expected to:
- attend all rehearsals and performances.
- arrive at all rehearsals in time to warm up.
- have prepared the music before each rehearsal.

Absences

§ Each student is permitted no more than two absences per performance cycle and no more than four absences for the entire season. Adjustments will be made to accommodate certain academic and performance schedules. Please check beforehand.

§ Those members holding positions of leadership, such as principal players or mentors, are allowed one absence per performance cycle. Seating may be adjusted for students unable to meet these requirements.

§ In case a member has to miss a rehearsal for any reason, including sickness, the member must call the office in order to let the conductor know he/she will be missing from the rehearsal. This call should be made as soon as a participant knows he/she will not be able to attend. Please call the MAYO office, (812) 330-0890, as early as possible before the rehearsal in question. If it’s the last minute (we hope it will never be the last minute!), call Julia Copeland’s cell phone at (812) 320-3885.

Rehearsals & Conduct

Rehearsals

MAYO rehearses on Mondays from 6:30 till 9:00 p.m. in the band room at Bloomington High School North. Before concerts there will be at least one dress rehearsal, usually on the day of the concert, on location at the concert venue.

Conduct

§ Players are expected to be in their seats warming up no later than ten (10) minutes before the time a given rehearsal or performance is scheduled to begin.

§ Each player is issued a folder and music. It is the player’s responsibility to take the folder and music home to practice and to bring the folder and music to every rehearsal.

§ All music contained in the folder is the personal responsibility of the player. It is each player's responsibility to report missing music to the orchestra manager(s) immediately. Players will be charged for lost copies.

§ Players are required to have pencils with them at all times.

§ Proper behavior is expected at all times.

§ No MAYO member is allowed to leave the grounds during breaks.

§ No food or drinks are allowed in the BHSN band room. However, you may enjoy them in the corridor.
