The Musical Arts Youth Orchestra offers a full symphonic orchestra experience to young musicians in south central indiana. MAYO also offers chamber music coaching through its Chamber music Program and jazz combo experience through its Jazz Program.

The MAYO mission is to provide musical training to a wide array of students of all levels and backgrounds, to promote excellence while fostering individual development, and to prepare students not just as musicians but as community members.

Students of all ages, from grade school through college, are welcome to audition for MAYO. Financial assistance is available for any who may need it. Musicians are expected to participte in their school music programs and to study their instruments seriously.

MAYO Concerto Competition Winners!

MAYO members Brian Allen, violin, and Young Hoon Koh, cello, are the winners of the most recent MAYO Concerto Competition, held Saturday September 6, 2008. They will both be performing with the orchestra on its first concert on Saturday November 22 at 7:00pm in the auditorium at Bloomington High School North. Brian will play the first movement of the Mendelssohn E minor violin concerto, while Youn Hoon will play the Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch. Their solos round out a program that also includes the second symphony by Howard Hanson (the "Romantic") and the overture to Candide by Leonard Bernstein.

Concerto competition adjudicators were Edmund Cord, James Campbell, and Diane Rivera.

The official public announcement will occur at the MAYO concert on Saturday November 22, 7pm, BHSN Auditorium. All four composers should try to attend this event, where you will be acknowledged and have a chance to hear the orchestra. You will also be welcome at rehearsals in December and January leading up to the playoffs on Martin Luther King Day, also at BHSN.

Due date for scores and parts is December 6, 2008 (two scores, string #s: 8-10-8-6-4, left for David Dzubay at the mailroom)

The winner will be selected at the open playoff concert on January 19, 2009.
