CONCERTO COMPETITION

Competition Rules
Date: The competition will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Indiana University School of Music.
Prize: The opportunity to perform as soloist with the MAYO Symphony Orchestra at its first-semester concert in November 2008.
Eligibility: Applications will be accepted from instrumental soloists as well as from groups performing double concertos and similar works with more than one soloist. Winners of the previous year's competition are not eligible to apply. The competition is open to musicians who were members of the Musical Arts Youth Orchestra and its programs during the 2007-2008 season. If you wish to compete and have not yet been a MAYO participant, you must commit to joining MAYO for 2008-2009.

Repertoire
Repertoire: Competitors may play either:
· A complete concerto or other work for soloist(s) and orchestra of 20 minutes or less in duration,
OR
· One movement of a concerto or concerted work for soloist(s) and orchestra of 20 minutes in duration or less.
Works from any period for symphony orchestra are acceptable. Please consult the conductor of the orchestra before applying to determine if your concerto is suitable for the ensemble. The suitability of the concerto for the symphony orchestra and the availability of performance materials may be considered during the judging of the competition.
· Candidates must be prepared to play the complete work or movement that they intend to perform with orchestra.
· Candidates must perform all works from memory.
· At the audition, works must be performed with piano accompaniment. Candidates will be responsible for providing their own accompanist for the competition.
· Candidates will provide one copy of the score of their piece for the jury members.

Application: Performers wishing to audition must complete an application form and mail it to:

or email it to info@mayomusic.org. Postmark or email deadline is midnight on SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, 2008. No late applications will be accepted. Application forms are available online if you have not already gotten one via email.
