CLASSICAL: Large Ensembles
The MAYO large ensemble program is open to string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players between the ages of 12 and 21 (younger students can audition; coaches are invited to apply for an intern position). Participants will rehearse weekly and perform at least three concerts per year in Monroe and surrounding counties. Repertoire spans from Baroque to Modern, with an emphasis on current musical trends. Placement auditions take place in the late August or early September, November and January each year (watch the website for audition announcements.)
Music coaches support the young musicians through coaching sessions and side-by-side playing in rehearsals.
Participants will be placed in one of the following ensembles:
SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Intermediate to advanced strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion
SINFONIA
Select chamber ensemble of advanced players
VIVACE STRINGS

CLASSICAL: Chamber Music
Open to interested young musicians with varied backgrounds, the MAYO Chamber Music Program provides weekly coaching sessions in a friendly, non-competitive environment. Ensembles will be formed with an eye to matching students' abilities and interests. Individual group members are responsible for maintaining their chamber music schedules. Community performances are scheduled periodically throughout the season.
CLASSICAL: String Training
MAYO string training at the Boys & Girls Students is a program for 5th-9th grade students who do not have access to an instrument and interested in an enrichment session. The eight-week, twice per week, activity will be held for one hour and focuses on the pre-twinkle repertoire in alignment with the IU String Academy training standards. Students in each semester will participate in a public showcase of the arts with other Boys & Girls members.
