Open to interested young musicians with varied backgrounds, the MAYO Chamber Music Program provides weekly coaching sessions in a friendly, non-competitive environment. Ensembles will be formed with an eye to matching students' abilities and interests. Individual group members are responsible for maintaining their chamber music schedules. Community performances are scheduled periodically throughout the season.
MAYO Chamber Music Auditions
Chamber Music auditions are held during symphony auditions on the fourth weekend of May and August of each year. If you missed the auditions, please contact MAYO to arrange an appointment during the semester. Any student - jazz, orchestra or non-MAYO member - can be in a chamber music ensemble.
Non-MAYO members who are in a formed group with one registered MAYO member do not have to audition.
Chamber Music Program
There are three programs for chamber music students: Scholarship Chamber Music, Select Chamber Music, and Mixed Ensemble.
SCHOLARSHIP CHAMBER MUSIC (Monday Night Rehearsal, 6-7 pm, select Monday nights or on contract) Scholarship chamber music recipients are nominated by the music director for a position in the MAYO Woodwind Quintet and the MAYO String Quartet and receive a $125 credit for the chamber music program. Members are requested to select repertoire (or ask for help from MAYO), work outside of MAYO coaching time on their parts, and contract coaching dates where all members are present.
